Sub-Committees

Join the Public Affairs Committee

The Public Affairs Committee has gone through a complete re-structuring and is currently looking for volunteers to serve on the larger committee or one of the newly formed sub-committees. Each sub-committee will be responsible for different issues that may affect the Metro area.

Health Care

The purpose of the Health Care committee is to make sense of health care issues that affect cost, coverage, and availability for Chamber members.
Topics the committee may cover include:

  • Communicating the Health Care Reform Compliance Timeline
  • Frontier Amendment
  • Small Business Paperwork Act
     

Metro Cooperation

The purpose of the Metro Cooperation committee is to examine areas of collaboration between governmental entities across jurisdictional lines, including local government, school boards, special purpose authorities and more.
Topics the committee may cover include:

  • Issues that cut jurisdiction boundaries
  • Weigh in on larger issues in support of another sub-committee
  • World language & culture – the Metro Area has many resources in place for global/international business initiatives; the resources just need to be coordinated.
  • The concepts of “complete streets” and “active living” contribute to the local culture and could be a recruitment or retention strategy.
  • The arts contribute to the community culture; the arts also have an impact on local business.
     

Environment (Natural Resources, Energy, Water)

The purpose of the Environment committee is to identify and understand the local business impact of environmental policy actions at all levels of government.
Topics the committee may cover include:

  • Flood diversion updates
  • EPA regulations
  • ND Comprehensive State Energy Policy
  • Cap and Trade Legislation
  • Energy innovation (wind, coal moratorium, federal ethanol subsidies)
     

Regulatory (Tax, Budget)

The Regulatory committee will focus on regulatory issues facing local businesses.
Topics the committee may cover include:

  • Fargo Sign Code
  • 1099 Regulations
  • Tax Policy
  • Sales Tax
     

Transportation / Infrastructure

The Transportation/Infrastructure committee will proactively identify local, regional and federal transportation related issues affecting Chamber members.
Topics the committee may cover include:

  • Federal Highway Bill Reauthorization
  • Implementation of Federal Highway Bill within the FM Metro
  • Development of transportation priorities within the FM Metro
  • Mobility needs of the region
  • Safe Routes to Schools
  • Local, state and federal policy related to surface transportation
     

Education / Work Force

The purpose of the Education/Work Force committee is to identify issues connecting the business, work force and education communities to propose positive solutions.
Topics the committee may cover include:

  • Business work force needs
  • Business/education work force trends
  • Connecting business stakeholders with education stakeholders
     

Military Affairs

Foster a strong relationship between the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo communities and the military units in our region and help provide community support for future missions.
