Flood Recovery Assistance
March 24th, 2009 by chamberDear Chamber Members:
Thank you for everything that you are doing to help continue business and community interests in our region during the Flood of 2009 while also helping those in need as best you’re able to. Special thanks to all of the flood fighters in our community and region (including volunteer participants from our Fargo Moorhead Leadership, Youth Leadership and Young Professionals Network programs) for your valiant efforts to protect our communities, businesses and homes.
Our offices are located at The Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, which already has a dike in the parking lot and a temporary access road. We anticipate that the building will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and so will we. We may have to remove our computer and telephone equipment as flood waters continue to rise, but we will do our best to serve our members electronically via our Chamber website, voice mail system and available Chamber staff.
I met with U.S. Small Business Administration officials this morning to discuss disaster preparedness and recovery services available to area businesses via S.B.A. We are partnering with S.B.A. as they plan, communicate and serve our region amidst the Flood of 2009. They encourage businesses to carefully assess risks for each location and plan accordingly, to maintain basic safety equipment and identify protection and recovery service vendors, and to protect and preserve important business records. Backing-up computerized records and developing and distributing a list of important phone numbers (employees, vendors, etc.) is also advised.
We are obtaining disaster assistance information from S.B.A. and will have it available on our Chamber website as soon as possible. Additional information is available at www.ready.gov, www.sba.gov, 1-800-237-3239 and 1-800-659-2955.
We work for you and we’re here to help. Thank you for helping each other and our region.
Warm regards,
David K. Martin, CCE
President & CEO
