Moorhead Calls for Flood Volunteers

February 28th, 2011 by chamber

As yet another spring flood bears down on our region, The Chamber is mobilizing the volunteer efforts of our business community on behalf of our cities to be proactive in this flood fight. The City of Moorhead has sounded the call for volunteers to begin staffing its sandbag storage facility on Tuesday, March 1. To ensure adequate protection for the City of Moorhead, they will need to produce 1 million sandbags.

The Chamber is committed to helping Moorhead get a jump start on its sandbag operations to keep business and residents moving this spring in the event of flooding.

We urge you to join forces and get involved. We are asking businesses to allow employees to volunteer beginning Tuesday, March 1 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and continuing until the goal of 1 million pre-event sandbags is complete and bags have been placed in heated storage.

The City of Moorhead needs volunteers to stack filled sandbags onto pallets. This will take place at the former Moorhead Electric Building at 2419 12th Avenue South, Moorhead. Parking will be available on site and the workspace will be indoors and heated. Water, food, and restrooms will also be available as well.

Moorhead officials are looking for 50-100 volunteers at all times. While volunteers do not need to preregister, they will be asked to fill out a registration form at the site.
