By Tyler Fischbach, Vice President of Public Relations, The Chamber

For over a decade, Darren Dunlop has been a cornerstone of The Chamber, shaping its growth, strengthening business connections and leaving an unforgettable mark on the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo community. As he steps into his next chapter, we celebrate his incredible contributions, dedication and the legacy of connection he leaves behind.

Darren joined The Chamber team on April 15, 2012, but his commitment to its mission began long before that day. A longtime Chamber Ambassador while working in sales, he has always been known for his infectious energy, quick wit and endless rolodex of connections to businesses in the community. His natural ability to build trusting relationships and his work as a volunteer caught the attention of then Chamber President and CEO Craig Whitney, who saw in Darren a natural leader and community builder. Together, they launched what would become one of The Chamber’s most defining programs, one seldom seen anywhere in the country – Chamber Community Builders.

Throughout his tenure at The Chamber, Dunlop grew the Community Builders to over 70 investors, a testament to his vision and ability to inspire investment in the region’s economic vitality.

Darren’s impact extends beyond numbers. His warmth and authenticity make every interaction meaningful. Whether in a crowded networking event or a one-on-one meeting, he has an extraordinary way of making people feel seen and valued.

“Darren is one of those rare people you meet who feels like a lifelong friend after just an hour of talking,” said AdShark’s Jack Yakowicz. “He is atop my list of favorite people in the Fargo business community, and his presence is felt in every room he enters. I truly hope that Darren is able to sit back and reflect on the many lives that he has made better through his kindness, humor and passion for his work. He's certainly made my life better.”

“You could say Darren is an excellent salesman without really trying to be a salesman,” remarked Jon Riewer, president and CEO of Eventide Senior Living Communities. “Rather, he is as genuine as they come and that is why he so revered by the members of The Chamber and the community as a whole.  He genuinely cares about our community and the people who live here.”

Darren’s ability to build genuine connections played a significant role in The Chamber’s growth and impact across the community. Whether rallying support for initiatives, engaging with business leaders or sharing a laugh at a Chamber event, Darren approaches every opportunity with sincerity and enthusiasm.

One memorable moment exemplifies this perfectly: Shannon Full and several FMWF Chamber team members were on a two-day visit to the Nashville Area Chamber. Darren – true to form – was the first to welcome almost every single attendee to an early morning Nashville Area Chamber event. By the end of the gathering, he had connected with multiple business leaders, collected a stack of business cards and left a lasting impression. Even in one of the country’s most vibrant business hubs, Darren stood out as a leader and connector.

Darren and Donna

Though Dunlop is stepping away from his full-time role at The Chamber, he won’t be slowing down. His plans include some type of part-time work related to his many interests, playing plenty of golf, traveling with his wife Donna and enjoying time with family and friends. He will also continue to serve The Chamber as an Emeritus Ambassador, a role that will allow him to stay engaged, share his wisdom and continue mentoring the next generation of leaders.

Stepping into Darren’s role is Katherine Grindberg, who has worked alongside him at The Chamber since 2018. As Executive Vice President, Katherine has been a driving force behind The Chamber’s key initiatives, advocacy efforts and community partnerships.

With a deep knowledge of The Chamber’s mission and strategic priorities, she is well-positioned to build on Darren’s legacy. As he hands the reins to Katherine, Darren does so with full confidence that The Chamber’s future is in very capable hands.

As we bid farewell to Darren’s daily presence at The Chamber, we do so with immense gratitude. His dedication, guidance and impact will continue to shape The Chamber and community for years to come. The Chamber, and entire Fargo –Moorhead-West Fargo business community, will always be better because of him.

Thank you, Darren, for everything. Your daily presence will be deeply missed, but your influence will never fade.
