  • 2024 North Dakota election review: State-wide results

    Statewide primaries recently concluded, where voters chose candidates to represent their partisan affiliations—Republican and Democratic-Non-Partisan-League—in the upcoming November general election. In key races like the governorship and the state's sole U.S. House seat, featured multiple candidates vying for each position. Additionally, a statewide non-partisan election for Superintendent of Public Instruction saw several candidates competing, with the top two advancing to the general election. These pivotal races will headline the November ballot. Keep reading for the results from North Dakota's June Primary Election. 

    Governor/ Lt. Governor 
    U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong won the republican gubernatorial primary against Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller with 73% of the vote, and he will face Dem-NPL gubernatorial nominee State Sen. Merrill Piepkorn and Independant candidate Michael Coachman in the general election.  

    U.S. House of Representatives  
    Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak clinched the Republican nomination for North Dakota's At-Large U.S. House seat, capturing 46% of the vote in a race against Rick Becker, Cara Mund, Sharlet Mohr and Alex Balazs. Fedorchak will now go head-to-head with Democratic-NPL candidate Trygve Hammer in the general election. 

    U.S. Senate 
    U.S Senator Kevin Cramer ran unopposed in the Republican primary election and will face Dem-NPL nominee, Katrina Christiansen in the general election. 

    State Auditor 
    Incumbent Republican nominee Joshua Gallion will face Dem-NPL nominee Timothy Lamb in the general election. 

    Treasurer  
    After running unopposed in the primary for the Republican nomination, incumbent State Treasurer Thomas Beadle will run unopposed in the general election as there was not a Dem-NPL candidate nominated. 

    Department of Public Instruction (Non-Partisan) 
    Incumbent Kristen Baesler faced three challengers in the primary - Jason Heitkamp, Jim Bartlett and Darko Draganic. The top two vote getters, Baesler (54.88%) and Heitkamp (22.11%) will face off head-to-head in November. 

    North Dakota Public Service Commission  
    Republican incumbent Randy Christmann and Dem-NPL nominee Tracy Wilkie are running for one of the three seats on the state’s Public Service Commission. 

    Insurance Commissioner 
    Running unopposed in the primary for the Republican nomination, State Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread will run unopposed in the general election, as there was not a Dem-NPL candidate nominated.  

    BALLOT MEASURE 
    Congressional Age Limits 
    The ballots on June 11 included a measure barring congressional candidates who would turn 81 before their term is over from running for office. This measure passed with 61% of the vote. 

    As we move toward the November general election, the stage is set for a series of crucial contests that will shape the future of North Dakota's leadership. From the governorship to the state's sole U.S. House seat, and pivotal roles such as the Superintendent of Public Instruction, voters will have the opportunity to decide on the individuals who will lead and represent their interests.

    The results of these races will have a lasting impact on the direction of our state.
